Regarding metaphysical inquiries, it seems that we can’t touch the truth but we can only take steps toward concluding what cannot be the case.
Still though, this needs to be handled carefully, because the most fundamental truths seem to resolve into paradoxes, with our current tools and understanding.
E.g. you can draw conclusions of negative knowledge, that the universe is not created by an elephant or the number 43, either through reasoning or simple intuition. But on the other hand, it is not easy to draw conclusions about the root of existence from
- “nothing”
- “god”
- “first unmoved mover” etc.
