It seems that there are two types of emotions. The first category includes the regular everyday emotions of joy, sadness etc. They are primitive and fundamental in human beings + some mammals.
The other category includes the higher emotions of bliss, awe, sublime, which are more neutral in terms of pleasure/pain. They depend on higher consciousness and insight, children and animals probably cannot feel them. But do they use the same mechanism as the regular emotions?
If not, can a non-living organism feel them?
If yes, could all living organisms potentially feel them?
Maybe they are a mix of primitive emotions + logic? Related: The opposite of mathematics, The Light and the Logos, Content with being discontent.
