There are two types of emotions. The first category includes the regular everyday emotions of joy, sadness etc. They are primitive and fundamental in humans and some other mammals.

The other category includes the higher emotions of bliss, awe, sublime, which are more neutral in terms of pleasure/pain. They depend on higher consciousness and insight; children and animals might not feel them. But do they use the same mechanism as the regular emotions?

If not, can a non-living system feel them?

If yes, could all living organisms potentially feel them?

Maybe they are a mix of primitive emotions and logic?
